Silken Wind
In the early nineties I made a video that included five-colored silk ribbons blowing in the snow on a mountaintop in Eingadin, Switzerland. While editing the video I froze individual frames in a sequence. Later, I set up a chance procedure in my studio in Basel and took hundreds of medium format Ektachrome stills combining slow shutter speeds with action stopping strobe. The two you see here were cherry picked from the lot.
In Tibetan Buddhist long life liturgies the five-colored silk ribbons are tied on the end of an arrow, and symbolize one's life force and the dance of the pure wisdom elements.
