Global
Global is the continuation of a series of photograms I started in 1988 called "Offerings." The initial idea was to give a picture, rather than take one. I see them as photographic mandalas. The most recent series, "Global," addresses the global nature of rice. I have worked with rice grown in its native habitat, rice grown with foreign seeds, and genetically manipulated rice. The photogram process reveals the inner structure, the hardness and softness of various forms of rice. The piece is intended as both a celebration of oneness, the continuity of rice throughout the planet, and also as a display of the weirdness produced from genetic tweeking and geographic displacement.
